Reports To: Nurse-in-Charge / Operations Manager
Location: Pitalir House Nursing Home, Bow of Fife
Job Type: Night Shift – Various hours available
Salary: £13.65

Key Responsibilities:
1. Care Delivery
- Assist residents with personal care including washing, dressing, toileting, and mobility.
- Administer or support in administering medication (when trained and authorised).
- Monitor residents’ health, recording changes and reporting concerns to nursing staff or management.
- Support residents with meals, hydration, and daily routines.
2. Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor junior care staff, ensuring care tasks are carried out to a high standard.
- Assist with induction and training of new care staff.
- Allocate daily tasks and oversee care delivery throughout shifts.
- Act as a role model by maintaining professionalism and compassion at all times.
3. Communication & Documentation
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date care records, reports, and handover notes.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and healthcare professionals.
- Participate in and contribute to care plan reviews, resident meetings, and staff briefings.
- A knowledge of electronic record keeping is desirable but not essential as full training will be given
4. Safeguarding & Compliance
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all residents, following safeguarding procedures and reporting concerns.
- Follow all policies relating to health & safety, infection control, and confidentiality.
- Comply with CQC regulations and standards at all times.
5. Emotional & Social Support
- Build positive relationships with residents, promoting independence and dignity.
- Provide companionship and emotional support tailored to each resident’s needs.
- Support activities that encourage mental stimulation and social interaction.
Requirements:
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a care home or similar setting.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Understanding of confidentiality, dignity, and safeguarding.
Desirable:
- Medication administration training.
- Experience with dementia care.
- Knowledge of CQC standards and care planning.
Working Conditions:
- Shift-based role including weekends, and holidays.
- Physically active – requires lifting, supporting residents, and long periods on your feet.
- Emotionally demanding at times due to the nature of care work.
